St.Arnaud and Former Lovers take the stage for the National Music Centre’s CIBC Summer Series at the legendary King Eddy on September 12.
Edmonton indie-pop songwriter St.Arnaud makes music that’s as joyful as it is devastating. Pairing bright trumpet bursts and singable sha-la-las with lyrics about loss, resilience, and the absurdity of carrying on, his songs strike a rare balance: heart-on-sleeve honesty wrapped in irresistible hooks.
Since his acclaimed DIY debut, St.Arnaud has toured extensively across Canada, Europe, and the U.S., sharing stages with Basia Bulat, Reuben and the Dark, and Lucy Rose. Festival appearances include Reeperbahn, Calgary Folk Festival, FOCUS Wales, Tallinn Music Week... His 2022 record Love and the Front Lawn, produced by Graham Lessard (Stars, Timber Timbre), expanded his palette with ghostly textures and playful departures while keeping the wit and warmth fans return to. Drawing from Big Star, Damien Jurado, and Jonathan Richman, St.Arnaud crafts music that’s cathartic, clever, and defiantly hopeful; a soundtrack for anyone stumbling through heartbreak and still choosing to sing along.
Former Lovers are a new band of old friends, originally hailing from Prince Albert/Saskatoon, SK. Coming from a small town, they share in making a big sound. With driving rhythm, ethereal guitar stylings and catchy hooks you'll be singing long after the next show, you certainly don't want to miss this.
Consisting of bandmates LJ Tyson (vocals), Cale Hretsina (drums), Kayanna Wirtz (vocals, bass) and Colin Klassen (guitar), all names you've seen around the Saskatchewan music scene, Former Lovers has already been called 'almost a supergroup'.
Drawing inspiration from 90's teen centric rom-coms, you dad's record collection and topics that make dinner at your grandparents uncomfortable. This crew is sure to wow you with an energetic show as they draw you in with catchy melodies and angsty anthems you'll wanna belt out on that familiar drive into Saskatoon, and the world beyond.
