Live Rooms

Our three Live Rooms, designed by Martin Pilchner of Pilchner Schoustal International Inc., blend modern design with convenient access to hundreds of historic instruments and pieces of music technology.

From each acoustically distinct room, artists have the freedom to experiment, create new sounds, and record through a range of options.

Live Room A

As our biggest recording space, Live Room A offers the greatest flexibility both acoustically and functionally. Acoustically, Live Room A has the largest decay time of all of Studio Bell’s recording spaces. Cover the reflective wood panels by drawing the curtains along the west wall and you’ll lessen the decay in the room.

Live Room A’s main recording area features two collapsible isolation booths with excellent sight lines to other musicians in the room. The room also features four mic panels that offer comprehensive connectivity to the rest of the facility.

Facility Connectivity

  • 72 mic lines
  • 32 tie lines
  • 5 speaker level tie lines
  • 16-channel Aviom cue system
  • Custom visual communication CCTV system

Live Room B

Acoustically dead, Live Room B can function as a standalone recording space using our portable recording setup or can be used in conjunction with the rest of the facility. Live Room B features a unique selection of electronic instruments from NMC’s collection, including many along the perimeter that are plugged in and ready to audition. These instruments give musicians quick access to a palette of sounds spanning 60 years of music technology!

Facility Connectivity
