Join us on May 21 at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, for a live conversation with k.d. lang and Gilles Godard as we celebrate their Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductions.

This special event will begin with the official plaque ceremony at 10 am, followed by the live conversation at 12 pm. Hosted by fellow Hall of Fame member Jackie Rae Greening, the Q&A will offer a rare opportunity to hear firsthand reflections on their extraordinary careers.

About k.d. lang

Internationally acclaimed, Edmonton-born singer-songwriter k.d. lang stands as a true icon in contemporary music, renowned for her unparalleled voice and groundbreaking contributions to the industry. With a career spanning more than four decades, k.d. lang has earned an extraordinary array of accolades, including four GRAMMY® Awards, eight JUNO Awards, 10 CCMA Awards, and the Order of Canada. Her 2013 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame further cemented her legacy as a national treasure. She has appeared alongside such musical luminaries as Tony Bennett, Elton John, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, and Bonnie Raitt, and in 2014 made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award nominated musical After Midnight. In 2016, she united with Neko Case and Laura Veirs to create case/lang/veirs, a collaborative record released that year, and 2017 celebrated the 25th anniversary of her Platinum selling breakthrough album, Ingénue, with critically acclaimed tours in Australia, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom/Ireland. In 2021, she released makeover, a collection of classic dance remixes that reimagined some of her best-loved songs released between 1992-2000, further highlighting her ability to evolve while staying true to her artistic roots.

About Gilles Godard

Originally from Cornwall, ON, Gilles Godard brings over 50 years of experience to his role as President of Anthem Music Publishing Nashville. Starting as a songwriter, he rose through the ranks at Anthem (formerly ole), holding key positions including Chief Creative Officer, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, and Senior Vice President Publishing. Godard has played a major role in expanding Anthem’s country catalog, he was instrumental in signing writers such as Jordan Davis, Chris Janson, Gord Bamford and Patricia Conroy, and leading strategic acquisitions tied to artists such as Taylor Swift, Sam Hunt, Timbaland and Cody Johnson. An accomplished writer, publisher, artist, and producer himself, over 400 of his songs have been recorded by artists including Terri Clark, Ricky Skaggs, and Anne Murray. His work has earned him many honours, including two CCMA Awards, two BMI Awards, four SOCAN Awards, a Felix Award, and multiple Juno nominations. Godard’s extensive contributions have significantly impacted the Canadian country music industry, fostering its growth and international presence.

About Jackie Rae Greening

For more than 40 years, there has been one constant in Canadian country music — Jackie Rae Greening. Whether it was on the CFCW radio, playing a new song from a new artist, or working to help a homegrown musician get that big break in Nashville, Greening has been there, a mainstay on the Canadian country music scene. She has supported young musicians as they tried to get a foot in the door in Edmonton’s music scene. Jackie is a member of the Country Music Alberta Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category. She is currently the program director and manager of operations for Stingray Radio in Edmonton, Camrose and Wetaskiwin. She is also a past chair of the Canadian Country Music Association and has won four CCMA Awards for Personality of the Year and the organization’s Humanitarian Award. Over the past four decades, Greening has volunteered her time for many events as well, including serving as chairperson for Country Music Week, The World Curling Championships, The Olympic Curling Trials and the Alberta Women’s Curling Championship. She is also the past chair of the CapitalCare Foundation and, in 2007, received the Global Woman of Vision Award.

About the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame

The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) honours Canadian Artists and Builders who have made long-term contributions to the growth and development of country music. In 2009, the National Music Centre (NMC) become the official home of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, collecting and exhibiting artifacts and memorabilia associated with Hall of Fame inductees. In partnership with CCMA, the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame exhibition at Studio Bell celebrates the careers of 2024 inductees, k.d. lang and Gilles Godard, along with other Canadian country legends.
