The Six String Nation guitar, officially nicknamed Voyageur, is a unique steel-string acoustic instrument constructed from 64 pieces of Canadian history and heritage, representing diverse cultures, communities, and events from every province and territory. Conceived by broadcaster Jowi Taylor and built by Nova Scotia luthier George Rizsanyi, the guitar was completed in 2006 with a mission to explore Canadian identity.
Please join Alberta artists JJ Shiplett, John Wort Hannam, Emily Triggs, and Jaiden Riley for an intimate evening of songs and stories as we celebrate not only a selection of Canadian musical classics, but a uniquely living instrument. Voyageur is the perfect vehicle to amplify our stories and accompany our songs, built from a collection of parts as resonant and diverse as the country that inspired it.
JJ Shiplett has captured the attention of music fans across the country with his passion and reverence for the art of music and performance. HIs most recent album, A Way Through Time, was released in 2024.
John Wort Hannam is the 2026 Alberta Arts Ambassador. The renowned Southern Alberta Troubadour has released eight albums over a career spanning more than 20 years.
Emily Triggs is a bred-in-the-bone roots musician. Recordings of her father can be found on Smithsonian Folkways recordings and her mother danced with the Quebecois folk troupe Les Feux Foilets. She draws on those deep roots to create a classic yet contemporary sound.
Jaiden Riley is an up and coming Alberta Metis singer-songwriter whose music captures the heart of the prairies. Rooted in the traditions of folk songwriting, classic country, and bluegrass, her sound is both timeless and uniquely her own.
