Each concert in the series will feature the same program featuring several brand new big band arrangements of the music of Canadian icon Joni Mitchell.
Special guest Tina Hartt will be featured on vocals.
The Calgary Women’s Jazz Collective was formed in January 2023.
Directed by Kathie Van Lare, a long-time music educator and trumpet performer in the Calgary area, the Calgary Women’s Jazz Collective is comprised of many of the finest female instrumental musicians in Calgary and beyond.
Originally known as the Calgary Women's Jazz Orchestra, the group has since gone on to perform several shows including among others the JazzYYC Canadian Festival, Vic Lewis Band Festival and CADME’s Youth in Jazz series. The group has performed with several very special guests including among others, Ingrid and Christine Jensen, Audrey Ochoa, Jodi Proznick, Tara Davidson, Rachel Therrien and Karin Hammar, and most recently Colleen Clark and Virginia MacDonald.
The CWJC enjoys performing music written by female composers and arrangers, including that of some of our members. With the ultimate goal of creating more gender parity on professional jazz stages, the CWJC aims to showcase and empower women in jazz.
