National Music Centre Announces Forever Young: Seniors' Wednesdays at Studio Bell

Free seniors’ days will run every Wednesday, from May 6 to November 4, 2026

(Calgary, AB — May 1, 2026) The National Music Centre (NMC) will be launching Forever Young: Seniors’ Wednesdays, from May 6 to November 4, 2026. Every Wednesday, seniors will receive free admission to Studio Bell, allowing them to explore Canada’s musical heritage and reconnect with the stories – and soundtrack – of their generation.

With five floors of exhibitions and striking architecture to explore, Studio Bell offers a bevy of experiences for seniors. NMC’s entire fifth floor celebrates Canadian Music Hall of Famers past and present, from an expansive exhibition dedicated to legendary Canadian jazz pianist and inaugural Hall of Fame member Oscar Peterson to the newest NMC feature exhibit honouring 2026 inductee Nelly Furtado. Many of Canada’s biggest names are woven throughout the building with rare memorabilia and hands-on experiences that invite visitors to make music or play alongside a Hall of Famer.

“Music has a powerful ability to bring people together and strengthen our sense of belonging,” said Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of the National Music Centre. “Many seniors experience isolation, and creating welcoming spaces where they can gather is incredibly important. Through these free days, we hope to help seniors stay more connected to music, to community, and to each other.”

Forever Young: Seniors’ Wednesdays is part of NMC’s broader commitment to using music as a tool for wellbeing. In addition to free admission, seniors will have access to free monthly drop-in programs on May 13, June 3, July 15, August 12, September 9, and October 7. These sessions will feature a variety of engaging experiences, including jam-along workshops, Kimball Theatre organ demonstrations, drum circles, instrument petting zoo activities, sound sandwich crafts, and live performances.
