Location: Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, Calgary
Reporting to: Manager, Visitor Experience

About this position

The Visitor Experience Ambassador plays a key role in creating a welcoming and inspiring experience for all guests at Studio Bell. Reporting to the Manager of Visitor Experience, this position supports various Front-of-House (FOH) operations.

Responsibilities include warmly greeting and orienting visitors and members, providing information about Studio Bell and the surrounding East Village neighborhood, and contributing to the overall guest experience. The Visitor Experience Ambassador also plays a vital role in supporting the retail and hospitality operations within the NMC Gift Shop and Café. This includes assisting with daily tasks such as making espresso-based beverages, restocking merchandise, maintaining cleanliness and organization, and ensuring that products are attractively displayed. The Visitor Experience Ambassador is committed to upholding high standards of customer service by providing a welcoming and helpful environment for all visitors, addressing inquiries with professionalism, and contributing to a positive and memorable guest experience.

Applicants for this position must have flexible availability including weekends, evenings and some daytime weekday availability.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Visitor Engagement and Customer Service

  • Assist with reception and visitor services, including greeting guests and scanning tickets for the public
  • Provide accurate and engaging information about the NMC collection, current exhibits, and visitor amenities
  • Communicate clearly and knowledgeably about upcoming programs and events at Studio Bell and within the broader Calgary area
  • Demonstrate the ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to visitor needs to exceed expectations and deliver an exceptional guest experience
  • Support the execution of marketing initiatives designed to enhance and promote the visitor experience

Operations and Administration

  • Answering public inquiries via phone and email; directing calls and emails to appropriate NMC staff members
  • Following Health and Safety standards and operations for Studio Bell to ensure a safe visitor experience

Box Office

  • Taking admission, selling memberships, and concert tickets via point-of-sale (POS) and on-line systems
  • Managing patron lists for ticketed events

Cash Handling and Inventory

  • Handling opening and closing cash procedures
  • Assisting in NMC Gift Shop and Café inventory

NMC Gift Shop and Café

  • Greet and assist guests in the NMC Gift Shop and Café, providing a welcoming and friendly experience
  • Prepare a variety of beverages, including espresso-based drinks, teas, and other hot or cold refreshments with consistency and quality
  • Maintain retail displays by stocking merchandise, organizing shelves, and ensuring products are nicely presented

Other Responsibilities

Qualifications:

Flexible availability including evenings and weekends

  • Previous experience in customer service, retail and/or hospitality is an asset
  • Previous Box Office experience is required
  • Knowledge and comfort with POS and computer systems
  • Enjoy interacting with the public, meeting new people, collaborating with internal staff, and partnering with volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in French or another language is an asset
  • Proserve Certification is an asset
  • Ability to communicate with visitors of all ages and demographics
  • Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of all visitors to meet or exceed their expectations and establish an outstanding experience
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions to ensure the safety and security of visitors
  • General knowledge and interest in music, the city of Calgary, and local tourist attractions

Remuneration

This part-time position offers a flexible schedule with hours ranging between 4-40 hours per week at a rate of $16.00 per hour.
