Technical Coordinator (Part-Time)

Location: Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, Calgary
Reporting to: Senior Manager of Production

About this Position

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Coordinator to join our Production team at NMC. The role is responsible for coordinating, planning and activating technical logistics for our live events.  This includes both people and equipment. They will work closely with our team to guide our live event Technicians by ensuring smooth and efficient operations. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and a passion for music. This position works with many different dynamics regarding people and scenarios. They must be service minded with a focus on timely resolution in a highly collaborative manner. This individual will require good communication skills to be able to foster and maintain strong relationships internally and externally. They will need very strong administrative skills and the ability to navigate multiple digital platforms quickly and effectively. This is a part time 24 hr/week (with potential to work more) position that will require evening and weekend hours to support events held by the National Music Centre. 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate A/V requirements for live events by proactively planning and scheduling people and equipment to ensure seamless execution of events.

  • Activate events with professional quality A/V services by managing the technical aspects from setup to teardown.

  • Train and supervise A/V tech staff by providing guidance and support to ensure efficient workflow and high-performance standards.

  • Maintain A/V equipment inventory, conducting regular inspections and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.

  • Liaise with external artists and clients to understand their technical needs and preferences, facilitating walkthroughs and providing technical expertise.

  • Act as support through more involved and complicated productions

  • Ensure compliance with NMC policies and safety standards, completing and providing necessary training to staff and volunteers.

  • Act as a scheduling steward, coordinating and optimizing event schedules to maximize efficiency and resource utilization. 

  • Attending meetings as required
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in live audio/video and lighting production, with experience in logistical planning and scheduling tasks.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Ability to work independently and in a team, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational skills.

  • Previous experience in music production preferred, with a solid understanding of event equipment and technologies. 

  • Be a strong team player with exemplary leadership skills and positive attitude.

  • Have strong organizational and logistical skills with attention to detail and accuracy; able to multitask and manage time wisely.

  • Have strong computer skills with the ability to manage many reference points through multiple platforms
  • Flexibility to work full-time hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
