Manager of Sound and AV (King Eddy)
Location: Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, Calgary
Primary worksite: King Eddy, 438 9 Avenue SE Calgary
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week). Working hours vary day to day, including weekends and evenings when required.
Reports To: General Manager of King Eddy Live Music Limited / Production & Tech Manager
About the Role
The Manager of Sound and AV – King Eddy, is responsible for the administration, scheduling, maintenance, preparation, and execution of all audio/visual technical operations at the King Eddy. This full-time position plays a key role in ensuring the success of live performances and events, supporting artists, clients, and staff with high-quality AV services.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Talent Buyer and Events Coordinators to assess and fulfill audio, video, and lighting needs for events.
- Assist with hiring, training, supervising and maintaining a roster AV technical staff.
- Coordinate artist and client communications, including technical walkthroughs.
- Maintain and troubleshoot AV, stage, and lighting equipment.
- Schedule and manage part time tech team; approve hours and invoices for payroll.
- Advance technical requirements with artists and ensure readiness for each show.
- Set up, operate, and strike AV systems for live events.
- Work with internal staff and external suppliers to execute events smoothly.
- Arrange piano tunings and backline orders as needed.
- Adhere to company policies and participate in training and evaluations.
- Ensure safety and security of King Eddy facilities and National Music Centre Collection items.
- Steward AV, lighting, IT, and collections equipment responsibly.
- Promote a safe and welcoming environment for staff and patrons.
- Represent the National Music Centre’s & King Eddy’s mission and values professionally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Expertise in live audio, video, and lighting production.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong administrative skills: Excel, Word, stageplot creation software.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Comfortable working with diverse teams and clients.
- Self-motivated and eager to stay current with AV technologies.
- Effective communicator with quick decision-making ability.
- Passion for music and live performance environments.
- Ability to lift up to 30 kg.
- Train and mentor staff or freelancers.
- Familiarity with specialty event equipment and resources.
- Experience in service, facilities, theatre, events, museums, or non-profits is an asset.
- Additional assets: electrical/IT skills, musician experience, stage management, recording studio familiarity.
