NATIONAL MUSIC CENTRE PARTNERS WITH CJAY 92 TO SUPPORT NEXT GENERATION OF ROCK STARS

YOUTH AGES 13-19 INVITED TO JAM EVERY THURSDAY AT STUDIO BELL AS PART OF CJAY 92'S JESSE & JD PRESENT NMC JAM CLUB

(Calgary, AB —October 27, 2022) The National Music Centre (NMC) is partnering with CJAY 92 to support the next generation of rock stars through its free after-school drop-in program for teens, redubbed CJAY 92’s Jesse & JD present NMC Jam Club.

Youth ages 13-19 are invited to jam, practice their skills, and explore their creative potential, all while making new friends, every Thursday at Studio Bell. All skill levels are welcome – whether you’re a prodigy or just started toying with the idea of picking up a new musical hobby, Jam Club is the place to be.

Students of all ability and experience levels can hone their skills, individually or as part of a group. Don’t own any instruments of your own? No problem! At Jam Club, students are welcome to make use of NMC’s extensive fleet of instruments, ranging from keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars with amplifiers, ukuleles, and drum kits.

For students who want specialized guidance on their craft, NMC has got that covered, too. Each week, participants will be supported by National Music Centre’s talented School & Public Program Educators, all of whom are skilled musicians, multi-instrumentalists, and experienced educators. A dedicated team of musically skilled volunteers will also be there each week to provide instructional support.

NMC Jam Club has been an integral part of NMC’s educational offerings for over a decade and has had a significant impact on the local music scene since then. Alongside the program’s relaunch, listeners of CJAY 92 will have the opportunity to get a free guitar for their rock-star-in-the-making kids every Friday, starting on October 28.

“As the parent of two kids I know how important programs like NMC Jam Club are for young musicians,” said Jesse Modz.

"CJAY 92 is proud to support the future of Calgary’s music scene," said JD Lewis.

This fall, Jesse and JD from CJAY 92 are gifting 92 brand new guitars to 92 deserving kids. To nominate a lil' rockstar, visit cjay92.com. Then listen every Friday from now until Christmas for "free guitar Friday" when Jesse and JD will surprise a bunch of future rock stars with their very first guitar.

“With music programs in schools declining, NMC Jam Club fills a much-needed void by offering musical mentorship and a safe space for kids to learn and make new friends,” said Andrew Mosker, NMC President and CEO. “We’ve seen many young people in the community cut their teeth in our Jam Club program and graduate to the stages of Calgary’s beloved music venues.”

As a drop-in program, students can drop in on Thursdays at any time between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and there is no obligation to attend week to week. Jam Club is free, operates on a first come, first served basis, and provides a safe and welcoming environment for all. Space is limited.
