Showtime! with Maddie Storvold
Showtime! with Maddie Storvold

Showtime! is a concert series which provides opportunity for students to get up close and personal with professional musicians in the intimate setting of our performance space at NMC. Classes will develop active listening skills, audience etiquette and an appreciation for live music all while enhancing classroom learning through curriculum-connected shows that are interactive. These are not “kiddie concerts” but rather a personal and adapted version of the musician’s own repertoire, performed for a student audience.

The Showtime! feature artist in October is CTV's The Launch winner, Maddie Storvold.

About Maddie Storvold:

An alt-country prairie troubadour, Maddie Storvold is an emerging storyteller from Edmonton. She was recently featured on and won CTV’s The Launch, giving her the opportunity to record and release a single written and produced by Bryan Adams, in conjunction with Scott Borchetta's Big Machine Label Group.

The single “Don’t Say You Love Me” went to #1 on the iTunes Canadian country charts in less than three hours, and peaked at #3 across all genres. Maddie is currently the second-most added CanCon artist on country radio. She has spent the past three years touring and playing festivals, house concerts, and folk clubs, including the Edmonton Folk Fest, Canmore Folk Fest, and Tiny Lights. She also appeared on Stampede City Sessions, which broadcasts to over 3.5 million households on PBS.

With funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the young songwriter released her second LP, "Freedom, Books, Flowers and the Moon" in December 2018, which she toured nationally with her trio. In February 2019, she showcased at the prestigious Folk Alliance International in Montreal. From emotive finger picking to righteous ballads, her music seeks to tell a story, to challenge us, and to touch a fragile part of the human spirit. She was described by the Edmonton Journal as possessing "seasoned wit and sweetly forlorn wisdom, just sugar-coated enough to be addictive.”

Tough and sweet, funny and fresh-faced, this storyteller is quickly gaining attention across Canada as a voice to be reckoned with, harkening in a new generation of songwriting icons
