The Power of the Playlist — Track 5: Power Playlists to Activate Your Memory
The Power of the Playlist — Track 5: Power Playlists to Activate Your Memory

Learn how to create playlists with purpose to improve mental health and address our human need to feel, create, and connect.

The Power of the Playlist is the National Music Centre's new playlist creation drop-in program facilitated by Jennifer Buchanan, founder of JB Music Therapy, and generously supported by Bell.

Track 5: Power Playlists to Activate Your Memory

Music’s incredible capacity to trigger memories is one of the core tenets of music therapy, driving much of the music therapist’s treatment design. Used with the right intention, frequency, and intensity, music has the power to transform feelings of being totally lost into feelings of being comforted and less alone —most of the time, music conjures up positive memories — but sometimes it doesn’t.

In this session you will learn:

  • how to start a Music Hub to build social connections and more fun memories in your life.
  • how music affects those who may be losing their memory due to dementia.
  • how to make music work for you during difficult times that you would prefer to forget.

Pre-registration is encouraged as spots fill on a first-come, first-served basis. You can sign up online in advance or drop in at Studio Bell.
