About Ian Robertson and Lachlin McKinnon
Ian Robertson is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia but has made Calgary home since 2012. He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Music in Performance and Literature from the University of Western Ontario. He works both as a vocal coach and music director for opera and musical theatre productions, and also as a consultant for Steinway Piano Gallery Calgary. He has performed and taught in Belgium, Holland, China, Dubai and the United States, as well as closer to home for companies like Stage West Theatre and Morpheus Theatre. Most recently, he was the winner of the 2021 Honens Pro-Am Competition held this past November at the Bella Concert Hall at Mount Royal University.

Lachlin McKinnon studied piano in Calgary, earning an ARCT in 1991. He has degrees in philosophy and political science from University of Toronto, and in law from University of Calgary, Lachlin served as special advisor to the 26th Governor General of Canada, where he had the privilege of playing and caring for Glenn Gould’s Steinway B. Following his position at Rideau Hall he practiced civil litigation; nowadays, he just practices piano. Lachlin was the winner of the inaugural Honens Pro-Am Piano Competition in 2003, and the Pro-Am All-Stars Edition in 2019.

Lachlin and his wife, Julianne, run Prospector, an executive search and consulting firm specializing in the nonprofit sector. Their three daughters have them moonlighting as chauffeurs to piano, violin, ringette, and softball activities. Active in the community, Lachlin is currently Vice Chair of Calgary Opera. He recharges with wilderness canoe trips in Canada’s north.
