Our jam-packed virtual spring and summer camps give youth a chance to play music, make new friends, and learn from our talented musician educators, all from the comfort of their homes!
All camps are hosted online and are designed to give youth ages 8-15 a chance to create and learn together. With a mix of live online learning guided by our educators and self-guided activities for campers to explore on their own, our camps focus on skill-building, creativity, and collaboration. Learn more about our camps and register your kids for an at-home musical experience they won’t forget.

Come learn about all things music!
Perfect for beginner musicians and kids new to music, this camp is packed with activities that build musical skills from the ground up! Explore the building blocks of music like pitch, melody, and rhythm to learn more about how music is made. Dive into science, math, art, and music with engaging activities like creating your own beat and getting a taste of songwriting by writing your own lyrics to famous tunes. Each day, self-guided activities will be provided to dive deeper into the day’s topics.
Ages: 12 to 15
Duration: One week
Time: Live online programs will occur from 10:00-10:45 and 1:00-1:45, with self-guided activities provided for the time between and for the afternoon
If you’ve always wanted to be a songwriter then this camp is for you!
Learn how to create music at home, craft lyrics, and express yourself through song. We’ll take you through the process of writing your own song, from melody to instrumentation to lyrics, and give you a chance to collaborate with other campers. At the end of the week, you’ll have an original song of your own to share with family and friends. Self-guided activities will be provided to dive deeper into songwriting.
Basic musicality/musical knowledge is recommended. While having an instrument at home will be useful, we can suggest online resources to campers who don’t have access to an instrument.
Registration for our 2021 spring break and summer camps is now open! There is a maximum of 13 kids per camp per session, so early registration is recommended. Live online sessions begin at 9:00 am for Music From the Ground Up and at 10:00 am for Your Song.
Camp fees are $95+GST per camper per five-day session, and $76+GST per four-day session (August 3-6, 2021).
To register, select a date above under the camp you'd like to register for, and click "Book Now". A new tab will open and prompt you for your email, and you'll be able to proceed with your checkout from there to reserve your camper's spot. We will follow up with a form via email to gather additional information about your camper.
For more information on Camps, for registration assistance, or to register by phone please contact the Public Programs Coordinator at 403-537-6225 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Campers will need access to a device connected to the Internet.
For both camps, a suggested material list will be sent out in advance. Materials suggested will focus on items that can be found outside or around the house, and will have flexible material options (ex. “something to colour with” rather than a specific type of art supplies). Programs are flexible to allow for a range of materials depending on what your camper has access to.
For Your Song, access to an instrument is recommended but we are happy to recommend online resources for campers who do not have access to an instrument at home.
We will use Google Classroom as our main access point to all camp materials and activities. You will receive a link to access the Classroom in advance of your camp. Only NMC staff and campers enrolled in that week of camp will have access to this code. In the Google Classroom, campers will find an easy link to join live video sessions as well as all self-guided activities.
For live video sessions, we will use Microsoft Teams. This platform is highly rated for its security and is easy to use for kids. While you will not need an account, we do recommend downloading the app in advance (available on desktop and mobile devices, for both Apple and Android). While the Teams sessions can be accessed in browser without the app, some features are only available with the app (like gallery view).
No adults needed, though you are always welcome to pop in to meet our educators!
While we do suggest showing your camper how to access the Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams meeting in advance or on their first day of camp (don’t worry, we’ll send you a guide ahead of time to make sure it’s easy for you too!), these camps have been designed for campers to navigate on their own. In live sessions, we will have two experienced educators present so that campers can ask questions and receive technical support in the chat, and we will be monitoring the Google Classroom in case campers have questions that require assistance during self-guided time. Self-guided activities are designed to be completed by campers without adult support.
A typical day of camp includes two live sessions, with self-guided activity time built in. Campers will begin their day with a live program led by our musician educators, followed by a block of self-guided activity time where campers will work on a project or activity on their own. Campers will then return to another live program, which may including sharing what they worked on in their self-guided time. When live sessions wrap up, additional self-guided activities will be provided to round out their day.
Self-guided activities are up to campers to explore, and are not mandatory. However, these activities will deepen their learning, make connections to the live programs, and are a lot of fun!
